The short version: Shout Up works on your iPhone. We have no accounts, no ads and no trackers, and we never receive your audio, transcripts or scores.
1. Who we are
Shout Up (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a speaking-practice app for iPhone. If you have a question about privacy, email support@shoutup.app.
2. What stays on your iPhone
To work, the app keeps these on your iPhone, in storage only the app can read:
- Your recordings, and the transcripts, scores and feedback made from them.
- The answers you give when you start (your goals, English level, challenges, practice length and reminder time).
- Your progress: sprints, streaks, ribbons, finished lessons, and any topics you write yourself.
We can’t see or reach any of it. It stays until you delete it.
3. How your speech is analysed
Apple’s on-device speech recognition turns your recording into a transcript. The app’s own rules, and Apple Intelligence on your iPhone when it is turned on, score the transcript and write your tips. All of this happens on your iPhone. The first time you record, iOS may download Apple’s speech model for English; Apple handles that download, and your recordings are not part of it.
4. What we collect
Nothing. The app has no account and no server for your data. It doesn’t collect your name, email, location, contacts or advertising identifier, and it contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code from us or anyone else.
5. When you write to us
“Send us a message”, “Contact support” and “Report a problem” open your Mail app with a message you can edit before sending. If you send it, we receive what you chose to send: your email address, your message and anything you attached, such as a screenshot. “Report a problem” fills in the topic, when you recorded it, your score and a speech ID to help us look into it. We use these emails only to reply to you and improve the app, and we delete them when we no longer need them.
6. Permissions
- Microphone, to record your speech.
- Speech recognition, to make a transcript on your iPhone.
- Notifications, for practice reminders. They are scheduled on your iPhone.
- Add to Photos, only when you choose to save your progress card.
You can change these at any time in your iPhone’s Settings.
7. Backups and exports
Your iPhone or iCloud backups can include the app’s data. Apple’s privacy policy covers those backups. When you tap Export my speeches, the app makes a file that you control and choose where to share.
8. Apple
Apple handles App Store downloads and ratings. If you chose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone’s settings, Apple may send us crash reports and usage statistics that don’t identify you.
9. Deleting your data
In the app, go to Settings and tap Delete all data. It erases your recordings, transcripts and scores from your iPhone right away. Deleting the app also deletes its data. Because we don’t hold your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
10. Children
Shout Up is not meant for children under 13.
